Pilkington Communications – Review of the Year 2023

Here at Pilkington Communications, we reflect on a year of awards, expansion and client successes – thank you 2023, it’s been our best year yet …

AWARDS: It is always wonderful to win awards so we were, of course, proud to win two in 2023 at the SME Northants Awards – for Best Enterprising Business of the Year & Business Person of the Year (our director and founder Jessica Pilkington).

Even more amazing has been helping our clients add to their trophy cabinets. We supported more than a dozen clients with multiple award applications and every single client was shortlisted in every category we entered them for.

Our client Mannol UK, an inspiring company with its HQ in Northampton, scooped multiple awards, winning Business Person of the Year (for CEO Jev) and Business of the Year at the Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards (NBEA), along with Diversity of the Year and Business Person of the Year at the Northants Chamber of Commerce 2023 Awards.

Groundwork Northamptonshire, a charity we are enormously proud to work with, won Community Project of the Year at the NBEA Awards – take a moment to find out about their Kettering based community green space Green Patch and you will quickly see why they wowed the judges. View the fabulous film we supported the charity with HERE.

Another of our wonderful charity clients, Teamwork Trust, was runner up at Northamptonshire’s NNBN Business Awards – which we, Pilkington Communications, proudly sponsored and supported.

Ball Corporation, a global aluminium can-making company, asked us for support in the leadup to the opening of their Barton Seagrave, Kettering plant. We have been supporting the team with their community led recruitment drive and were proud to support them with their award applications – they were Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce Award finalists and scooped two top wins at the NNBN Awards 2023.

We also started working with Commsave Credit Union at the start of the year – and the awards have kept coming. This inspiring non-profit won Employer of the Year at the SME Northants Awards and then went on to win two awards at the Chamber of Commerce Awards (Employer of the Year and Customer Commitment). Culminating an incredible year, Commsave were recently crowned UK Employer of the Year at the SME National Awards.

CLIENT SUCCESSES: We’re incredibly proud of the support we’ve been providing to the excellent in-house PR and marketing team at Delapré Abbey. We are lucky enough to call this historic house our home – our office is based inside this wonderful building – and we have really enjoyed helping to raise the profile of this important local asset with lots of PR, Press, Radio and TV coverage.

We’ve also been supporting Hanwood Park, Chester House Estate, Outside In Theatre, Teamwork Trust and others this year with their PR and media campaigns.

We have also continued working with Brackmills BID. We’ve been working with this logistics estate, which has Business Improvement District (BID) status, for more than 12 years – and this year it’s all been about helping the team secure a YES vote at next year’s BID ballot. We lead on their strategic communications, including their social media, press and media, app and website content. Pulling together their 2023 Prospectus was a highlight, as we looked back at over a decade of successes.

DOING IT FOR OURSELVES: To celebrate our 10th birthday we ran a host of blogs and campaigns and over the summer launched our all-new Turtle Talks (Turtle Academy is the training arm of Pilkington Communications). These free ‘lunch and learn’-style digital marketing workshops proved a hit, covering everything from press release writing and LinkedIn to the power of Instagram stories and how to integrate AI into a marketing strategy.
We also had a celebrity guest, with UK leading influencer Cami Sophia (who only lives round the corner from our office), generously donating her time to do a Turtle Talk on all things TikTok.
If you missed these Turtle Talks, not to worry. You can now view them online – all you need to do is click HERE, pop your details on the form and we’ll give you free access.

RECRUITING: Our team has changed and expanded this year. In October we waved farewell to our marketing assistant Chloe, who is now working one of our clients, Chester House Estate – a huge promotion and opportunity. Well done Chloe, we’re really proud of you. Our advert for a new Marketing Assistant saw us inundated with over 95 job applications.
So much talent out there and, after lots of interviews, we welcomed Susie Bacon to the team. Susie’s background in agency marketing quickly wowed us all. So much so that we won a couple of new marketing contracts, promoted Susie to Marketing Lead and then employed Emily Leather as our new Marketing Assistant. Our office is certainly busy – particularly when David and the two dogs are in!

CHRISTMAS: November and December have definitely given us a busy end to the year.
As well as running festive fundraisers and supporting our clients with their Christmas campaigns, we organised a huge media and influencer event for Delapré Abbey. We invited local bloggers and journalists to come along and experience a flavour of the festivities – a visit to see Santa, a visit to the Winter Light Trail and even a peek at the Abbey’s reindeers (on site for the Christmas Fayre). The support – on Instagram in particular – was phenomenal and had a positive impact on sales.
We added a Christmas Highlight to Delapré Abbey’s Instagram account which means you can see lots of the best Insta stories at the click of a button HERE.

And a big thank you to local student Daniel, who joined us for a week of work experience – your help was really appreciated and your Insta insights invaluable.
With the new team on board and Daniel behind the camera we took a moment out from client work to pop on a bit of music, munch on a few mince pies, open our advent calendars and decorate our tree. See our musical mayhem for yourself HERE.

So, after a fantastic 2023 we are putting the finishing touches to some project work and preparing to wind down for a well-earned Christmas break.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year – we wish you all a happy and peaceful festive break. See you in 2024!
