Communication is proving more important than ever

A record number of new clients have been in touch in the last eight weeks. Jessica Pilkington, Director of Northampton-based Pilkington Communications, chats about the new climate and increased demand for PR and communications support …

When COVID-19 struck we, like many companies, were unsure what the future would hold. After an initial dip in demand the situation changed rapidly. Within a fortnight we started receiving more client enquiries than ever before. Existing clients such as Northampton BID, Luton BID, Brackmills BID, Fortec Distribution Network, Alchemy VA, Teamwork Trust stepped up their PR requirements.

We also helped our chosen ‘Charity of the Year’, The Lewis Foundation, explore alternative communications methods during COVID and launch a brand new e-newsletter.

At the same time new enquiries started, at a level we have never seen before. Since COVID-19 we have started working with so many new organisations. Here are just a few:

PrimarySite, the UK’s largest supplier of educational websites – this is a company which works with more than 4,700 schools and multi academy trusts. Within a few weeks of working with this exciting company we secured valuable coverage in Ed Technology, with the headline: ‘Twentyfold increase in blogging from schools since start of COVID-19 lockdown.’ Exciting plans are afoot.

Clearhead, an incredibly innovative film and animation production company based in Luton – our first job has to be to enter this talented team into the Luton and Bedfordshire Business Awards. Watch this space.

Delapré Abbey – working with the new CEO Richard Clinton we have helped shape a brand new campaign, aptly titled Wedding With Thanks. With incredible support from BBC Radio Northampton we have already had more than 300 entries. The winning couple will receive a free wedding and all the trimmings. This has been designed to thank and celebrate carers, key and essential workers in Northamptonshire who have gone above and beyond during the coronavirus crisis.

As part of this project we have been chatting to and preparing blogs focusing on many incredible Northamptonshire companies, including Sky Photography, Tangerine Red, Michael Jones Jeweller, Potter Group Events, Seckingtons, THE Hospitality, Florry, Forevermore Events and Beautywithin.

Another new client, headed up by impressive entrepreneurs, is a Northamptonshrie based telecoms company Ylo Telecom

We are also now working with a team in Singapore, London and Canada to launch ViraxCare in the UK – focusing initially on a regional launch in Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. Thanks to All Things Business for your support.

This is just a snippet of what we have been working on. This blog isn’t a sales pitch, this is our new reality. We have doubled our team since COVID struck and are more committed than ever to supporting businesses during this incredibly challenging time.

Put simply, PR and communication is more important than ever during any crisis, no more so than today.
